And the Oscar goes to...

This was fun little outft I had added to my list after being inspired by the following photo in the Victoria's Secret Catalog:

Just wasn't sure where on earth I would wear this. Since it is a bit too sexy with the leathe rmini and tigh high boots but too hot for a club with the faux fur vest. Not that going to clubs are a big part of my life anyway. So, when my mom insisted we dress up a bit for her Oscar party figured it was the perfect opportunity...

This lace top which is really a bodysuit was in a bag of clothes my aunt was no longer wearing. I go through every family member's closet nows looking for free items. Especially closets or bins of stuff they no longer wear. The issue is the bodysuit's lace part ends right at waist and a solid part starts. And without a belt this mini skirt sits at hips showing the solid part of the top. Another issue was the skirt was almost too long (if you can beleive that) for the super high tigh high boots. So I used this super tight elastic belt to keep the skirt higher and on top of the lace part. 2 problems solved with one belt!

The animal print heart pendant compliments the belt. Coincidentally both Betsey Johnson!

This vest was great at keeping me warm and it is so soft. Very good quality for faux fur.

Faux Fur Vest - Kenar
Lace bodysuit - Aunt's
Leather mini - BCBG (thrifted)
Tigh High boots - Charlotte Russe
Belt and Necklace - Betsey Johnson

Today's Activities: Welcomed the slightly warmer weather and the nice sunshine today. After a big family breakfast at my mother and step dad's house we took the kids and husband's grandparents to our local beach boardwalk for a short stroll. My daughter who has been taking gymnastics praciced her 'flamingos', 'side' and 'back' walks on the wall of the boardwalk. She was so cute. We stoped by the steps so the kids can go on the sand to play. My son made a huge kelp bark a guitar and was dancing and singing while my daughter made mud pies over her bucked and sang her currently favorite song 'happy birthday to you'. Although it was nippy the grandparents enjoyed getting fresh air and watching the kids and the waves and miles of sand beaches are always breathtaking sights of of our magnificent city.
We came home for lunch and naps. After playing with the kids I carpooled with my friend to my mom's house to watch the Oscar's. Hence the outfit.
The best part of course is the red carpet segment and analyzing the dresses.  So apparently there was a memo among the males to not shave their faces and maintain that rugged scuffy look (which I personally love). And the memo among the females we decided was to stay away from all self tanners and tanning booths and support a pasty white complexion. Which did look good on some of them. My top favorite was Anne's first red Valentino gown. 2nd Favorite was the co-star from Black Swan in her prewinkle lacey dress. The teenage actress (from Winter's Bone I think) was so pretty in the pink tulle princess like gown.

Here are the kids at the beach:

Cream and Sugar

So, so loving how this outfit turned out on Saturday. It is just one of those good days where the pieces look better than you imagined when you put them on together. The inspiration came from the following photo in the JCrew Fall/winter catalog:

The minute I saw this I rememberd my almost identical thin cream half t-neck top I bought years and years ago from VS catalog to layer under sweaters or business suits. It is jersey like thin material that looks great.

The only thing I was mising was a really big (somewhat obnoxious) rhinestone necklace like the one in the photo. The one they sell is georgous for sure but I am not to one to pay $200+ for custom jewelry. So I bought mine at Forever 21 online. I wore it already with another outfit paired under a pearly choker. It is a great layering necklace but here worn on its own with a slightly longer one really pops out over the smooth cream top.  At the b-day party I got compliments on them saying they looked like 'heirloom' pieces.

To continue the rhinestone theme added my diamond watch, tiffany bead bracelet and CZ tennis bracelet and this great raised pearl and CZ ring I got from Turkey couple years ago...

The super early b-day present purse goes perfect for the cream hued outfit...

Nude heels were the obvious choice...

For the first part of the day though I couldn't wear heels so wore these silver flats instead:

I was going to add cognac colored belt (she has a cognac colored clutch in the photo) but this distressed silver belt with studs worked much better. Such an old purchase from Target came in handy.

This cream fur jacket just makes the outfit I feel. It is a left over from my mom's old vintage store. She bought these and restored them to their original glory by renewing their lining and fixing any damages. The crop style just looks great.

Saturday's Activities: Since wanted my husband's grandparents to see my daughter's gym class, all of them went to the gym school while my son and went to friend's son's 1st b-day party. The rest of the gang met us there after the class. It was cold and rainy outside so the party was perfect to burn some energy. They took late and long naps. We had a family friend come to babysit late afternoon while we took Nana and Grandpa to a Casino (Indian reservation) 40 minutes norh east of us in the mountains area. My husband and I are not into gambling at all but the grandparents love it so we like to take them when they visit. We had dinner at the casino restaurant then played a seriuos game of Bingo. They all got machines but I stuck with oldschool paper which was a bit stressfull to keep up. None of us won but we had a great time. We then mostly watched Nana and Grandpa play poker and slots on the machines. We had to pretty much pry them away as it was getting very late. And when we went outside we were in shock to discover it was SNOWING.  And snowing hard for a while. Everywhere was turning white. Our car was covered in snow. I know this is no big deal for folks in cold states but in San Diego this is a mircale. Everyone was taking photos which Nana thought was hilarous coming from New Hampshire. Late night but very fun.

Had to snap these photos of my daughter at the b-day party in her leather 'harley davidson' jacket. My mom bought these ages ago and saved them with the hopes of one day her grandchildren would wear them...I of course thought it would be perfect over tute skirt leggings.

Here we are at the Casino:

Ice Queen

Super simple outfit today. Given today's activity this was perfect though. Not that it needs inspiration but got the idea of wearing this sweater again when I saw the following:

This is such an old sweater of my mom's. I call this the 'ski sweater' in my list and have worn this skiing many times. I love its colors and the design.

Paired it over the light colored jeans to continue the pastel look. Added the striped shirt from yesterday and the cream beret.

Too bad you can't really even see or tell I am wearing my taupe wedges.

My mom snapped the photos at the ice ring and the kids insisted they are in it...

Jeans - 7's
Sweater - Mom's
Shirt - From Turkey
Beret - Forever 21
Wedges - Victoria's Secret

Today's Activities: We had preschool ice skating field trip today. Our attempts to carpool with a friend was a big effort but we managed. First she couldn't fit 3 car seats in her car but then figured it out. We then got all 3 kids buckled with much effort only to find out she lost her car keys. After 15 minutes of searching and getting the kids back out we found the keys then buckled them back in. Somehow still made it there on time. My mom rushed from her early work appt to meet us there so she can entertain my daughter while I attempted ice skating with my son. Never liking to try new things and with extereme fear of falling and hurting he was bawling for at least the first 10 minutes. Had him take deep breaths and watch some other skaters and very slowly got him going. He eventually warmed up a bit. Luckily there were some mom's that were very skilled and they took turns taking our kids around the ring. I finally got enough confidence myself too. My daughter who was dying to jump in got to try as well wearing my son's 2 sizes too large skates. She of course loved it, had no fear and even tried to skate herself. Just two very opposite kids. We came home to find my husband grandparents had already arrived. It is going to be a fun filled few days with them. They are 93 and 92 and just the most amazing people we know. We get along so well and have a blast.

Here is my son after warming up a bit...

And my daughter happy as can be...Too bad they don't make her shoe size....
