The Light between Oceans

Yesterday's Inspiration was from Nov 2013 issue of People Style Watch:

I liked the idea of the varsity jacket dressed up with heels…
In the morning though I had no time so I wore the base of this outfit which was jeans, tee and the jacket  with the Doc Marten style boots. At night for the book club meeting I added make-up necklace and the heels. It was quite a transformation which once agin proves the power of accessories...

These are by far the most expansive pair of shoes in my collection. I got them on clearance years ago from New York's Century 21 store discounted down many times from their original price of $1500!!!

MONDAY:
It was the last day of pre-school and our holiday party… I picked up my sister in law and nephew to join us. He was more interested in the toys in the class but they all enjoyed doing Christmas crafts, decorating the gingerbread houses the mommies had cut and assembled last week and a visit from Santa with book gifts topped it all. We ended the party with a yummy potluck….

After class my brother picked them up and took my daughter to my mom's. I rushed home to stop for 2 minutes then to my son's school to volunteer in his class. Was put in charge of coin bingo which the kids had quite a hard time adding up the coins but it was fun teaching. Then my son and I came back home and I desperately tried to finish my calendar projects on snapfish to order before the 55% off coupon expires. Then it was to swim class where my brother came to watch and back to home. My hubby was happy he only had one kids so they did homework and went ot dinner and then watched football together while I cooked my potluck dish and went to my friend's house for our book club meeting to discuss our last book 'The light between oceans'…

My friend who loves to bake made these professional looking gorgeous sugar cookies:

It was a great meeting as always first catching up on each other's lives and eating then discussing the book. Except the discussion questions we looked up happened to be the literature lovers questions and we didn't realize until the end but all noticed how they were worded like we were in a college lit course and were laughing about it.
Next book:

Where'd You Go, Bernadette

The hardest job you will ever have

Yesterday's outfit was inspired from October 2013 issue of Lucky Magazine:
The jacket in the photo reminded me of this maxi blazer/coat I had in my son's closet probably 20 years ago! And I need lots of cozy layers on M-W-F while watching my son's swim practice so I try to pick combinations on those days that are very warm like this one.

Well, this was one of the sweaters I had pinned as items I coveted. And when Anthropologie had its black Friday sale I went for it. It is a bit itchy but I added a cami under it so it was fine.

Hat - Lucky
Coat, Jeans - Forever 21
Sweater - Anthropologie
Booties - Betsey Johnson
Necklace - Cookie Lee

WEDNESDAY:
After my daughter's school we fit in a quick costco shopping as it is our snack turn at the school on Friday. We then had to stop home of course to unload the groceries then picked up my son and decided to surprise them by a trip to the mall to see Santa to beat the weekend crowds and lines he will have.
There was still a short wait but it was quick.  My son asked for a lego set that I made the mistake of not checking before hand. My daughter asked for something super odd so not sure about that either. It is like this swing on a rope and has glow in the dark features. Of course we don't have a tree in our yard that would be suitable for this.  Immediately upon leaving santa's area they wanted the candy canes and my daughter's broke and she had a fit throwing the broken cane to the street. We promised to go back and ask for a new one later.

While we were at the mall though we stopped at the lego store only to find out to my terror that the set he wants is THE Biggest set in the store and costs $400!!! I told him there is no way Santa can do such large gifts plus the set is for ages 16+ for heavens sake. He will have to settle for a smaller hobbit set or something like that. But this meant we had to go back to Santa to explain. Santa was hard of hearing and did not quite get all this and my son semi thinks he will still get it.

He also purchased a small set at the store with the promise that he would pay me from his own money when we got home. But when the time came at home to pay he freaked out that his money will be gone. He is super advanced in math and totally gets the mathematical side of $20 - $16 equals $4 BUT the 6 year old side of him didn't want to give up the cash or the toy. THere was quite a melt down but I felt my hubby and I tried our best to calmly explain it all to him. He was so hysterical we had to send him to his room to calm down. After 5 minutes a $20 bill was thrown downstairs! At the end he did get it. :)

Between the candy cane, un realistic gifts and lessons about purchases we were ready for couple glasses of wine when they went to bed.

TODAY:
Had a busy day today. Our outdoor class had a field trip at Pat & Oscar's. Yes, I know it is weird to have a field trip to a restaurant but they had the kids make their own pizzas and then tour the kitchen and the whole back area. Then served the pizzas they made for the kids to eat. It was cool and different. Of course it wasn't tiring enough for the kids though cause later they were running around like wild animals on the patio giving all the mother's this fearful look. Since it ended early we had some time to run errands then get home to finish the outside lights. Not only is it hard to put lights by myself but it is even harder with two kids running a mock during the process.
Got it done regardless though.
After naps met my dad at the mall to take the kids to see Santa. It was so nice to got at that hour cause there was only one boy in front of us and no one behind us so the kids took their time talking to Santa. Well actually more my son. He even took a photo of the toy he wants so Santa knows exactly what to get. My daughter was scared but sat with me holding his hand. I leaned back as far as possible so they can take the photo without me in it. Dad got some good shots of all of this.

My son giving santa the photo of the toy he wants.

I hate when these do not rotate!

Afterwards we had a lady take a photo of us:

And here are some photos from the Pat & Oscar's field trip:
